Namangan region secures UZS 703 billion for water infrastructure and transit upgrades
Centralized drinking water pipelines will be extended to 34,000 residents in Namangan region for the first time, following a substantial budget allocation dedicated to regional modernization.
A total of UZS 703,000,000,000 has been earmarked for water supply and sanitation improvements across the region. The infrastructure strategy was reviewed during a briefing at the regional situation center, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev assessed development targets presented by regional administrative and ministry officials.
The allocated funds will cover the engineering and installation of 130 kilometers of drinking water pipelines, 2.5 kilometers of sewage networks, and the construction of nine new water processing facilities. Beyond expanding basic utility access to thousands of households, the project will connect an additional 25,000 citizens to the centralized sanitation network.

Complementing the state-funded water network expansion, a comprehensive overhaul of Namangan’s urban sanitation infrastructure is scheduled to begin later this year. This utility modernization project will be executed using public-private partnership (PPP) frameworks to draw private capital and specialized engineering expertise into the regional utilities sector.
The high-level administrative review also outlined parallel infrastructure initiatives aimed at expanding public transport, medical networks, and arterial roads within the Fergana Valley.
Transit infrastructure will receive a near-term boost to ease passenger bottlenecks. Transport authorities have been directed to acquire 105 electric buses by July 1, followed by a subsequent delivery of 90 standard buses, 50 electric buses, and 30 microbuses by September 1.

In the healthcare sector, a restructured primary healthcare delivery model will be introduced across the Kasansay and Uychi districts. This primary care initiative will be paired with the launch of a targeted national medical campaign to combat heart attacks and strokes, scheduled to go live across the Namangan, Andijan, and Fergana regions this October.
Long-delayed transit links are also seeing renewed development. Contractors are executing a major upgrade along a 75-kilometer section of the Pungan – Namangan highway. The strategic road project aims to convert the existing corridor into a high-capacity, four-lane concrete thoroughfare designed for travel speeds of up to 120 km/h. The expanded corridor layout includes the construction of 21 bridges and 22 pedestrian crossings.

The overhaul of the Pungan – Namangan road has faced significant delays, with initial planning stretching back to 2013 before being suspended in 2016. President Mirziyoyev revived the infrastructure initiative with an official approval in March 2024. Although initial timelines targeted completion by the final quarter of 2025, active ground operations only commenced late last year. Chinese state engineering firm CITIC Construction is managing the implementation of the project, which carries an estimated valuation of $246,000,000.
