Government to introduce trade-in system to replace old, high-emission vehicles
Uzbekistan will launch a trade-in program to replace older vehicles that contribute heavily to air pollution, while entry into the capital will be restricted for high-emission trucks. The measures were approved in a decree signed by the president.
To reduce the impact of motor vehicles on air pollution, the government will, within one month, develop a trade-in mechanism for purchasing category “M” and “N” vehicles manufactured before 2010 that do not meet Euro-4 environmental standards.
A temporary restriction will also be introduced on the movement of freight transport entering Tashkent.
In addition, an even-odd system will be implemented for all motor vehicles, including those with state license plates, except for electric cars. Under this system, cars will be allowed to operate on alternating days based on their license plate numbers.
