The delegation also included FIA Senate President Carmelo Sanz de Barros and Vice President for Mobility and Tourism Tim Shearman.
The meeting focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the global organization that regulates motorsport and promotes road safety. The sides underlined the importance of close collaboration in developing all areas of motorsport in Uzbekistan – from karting to Formula racing.
Special attention was given to training Uzbek racing drivers, karting athletes, engineers, designers and mechanics using the resources of the FIA University; supporting the creation of modern motorsport infrastructure in Uzbekistan; implementing programs to improve pedestrian and vehicle traffic safety; and considering the possibility of hosting international competitions, including Formula 1 Grand Prix stages, under the federation’s auspices.
At the end of the meeting, the president presented the FIA head with Uzbekistan’s state award, the Order of Dostlik, in recognition of his significant personal contribution to strengthening cooperation with the federation and promoting motorsport in Uzbekistan in line with international standards.
Uzbekistan has been an active member of the federation since 2019. Last year, Samarkand hosted an extraordinary FIA General Assembly dedicated to the organization’s 120th anniversary. As part of this year’s events, an awards ceremony for top athletes and teams will be held on 12 December at the Humo Arena complex with the participation of distinguished foreign guests and champion racers.
