The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to the country’s development and to strengthening friendship and cooperation.
Asadov has served as the president’s press secretary since March 2021. He was appointed to the post on March 24, 2021, after serving as deputy foreign minister. In July 2025, he was appointed head of the Presidential Administration’s Communications Department while retaining his position as presidential press secretary.
When announcing Asadov’s appointment in 2021, President Mirziyoyev said he would be responsible for coordinating the work of press services across government bodies and local administrations, as well as for communicating state policy to the public.
Asadov has extensive experience in Uzbekistan’s diplomatic service. From 2015 to 2017, he served as assistant to then-Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov and headed the ministry’s secretariat. In October 2017, he began working at Uzbekistan’s embassy in Austria.
From August 2018 to 2020, Asadov served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria. At the same time, he was the country’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, including the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
On March 19, 2020, he was appointed deputy foreign minister, overseeing cooperation with the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the European Union.

Sherzod Asadov, head of the Communications Department of the Presidential Administration and press secretary to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has been awarded the Dustlik Order ahead of Uzbekistan’s 35th anniversary of independence.
