Qu is visiting Uzbekistan to attend an international conference marking World Cotton Day and the second Forum on the Development of Agrarian and Food Systems of Landlocked Developing Countries.

The meeting focused on strengthening Uzbekistan’s strategic partnership with the UN agency on food security and agricultural development.

The sides noted the progress made in practical cooperation in recent years. A new five-year partnership programme has been adopted, while 27 joint projects are currently being implemented.

Uzbekistan was elected to the FAO Council for the first time for the 2028–2029 term. An Agro-Innovation Hub for landlocked developing countries is also due to be launched in Tashkent on October 7.

Particular attention was given to the effective implementation of the new cooperation programme and the development of a pipeline of joint projects, including agricultural digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence, climate financing, experience-sharing and specialist training.

Qu presented the medal to Mirziyoyev in recognition of the Uzbek president’s initiatives and achievements in food security and the development of agriculture and water management.

The FAO’s Agricola Medal, established in 1977, is awarded to prominent figures who have demonstrated commitment and practical action toward universal goals such as ending hunger and ensuring food security.
