Uzbekistan expands fresh produce exports to 83 countries
Uzbekistan’s food exports have grown by 37 percent to reach $3 billion since the beginning of the year, and by year-end this figure is expected to exceed $3.2 billion for the first time, according to information shared at a presidential meeting. Agriculture has become the country’s second-largest source of foreign currency earnings after the textile industry, the president noted.
Presidential spokesperson Sherzod Asadov reported that Uzbekistan’s food exports have increased by 37 percent this year to $3 billion, and will surpass $3.2 billion by the end of the year.
It was highlighted that the number of countries importing Uzbekistan’s fruits and vegetables has increased by 18, reaching 83. As mentioned during the meeting, Uzbekistan now ranks third globally in dried plum and dried apricot exports, seventh in peaches and raisins, eighth in cherries, and thirteenth in grapes.
The report noted that efforts in recent years to renew orchards and vineyards, as well as the development of intensive vegetable production, are yielding results. Over the past three years, 155,000 hectares of orchards and vineyards have been established, and the area of intensive orchards has reached 150,000 hectares.
In 2025, the country produced 3.4 million tonnes of fruit, 2 million tonnes of grapes, 19.5 million tonnes of vegetables, melons and potatoes, and 1 million tonnes of legumes and oilseeds.
Most importantly, thanks to this output, the domestic market has remained price-stable, while agriculture has become the second-largest foreign currency earner after the textile sector, the report said.
At the end of 2024, it was reported that Uzbekistan’s food exports had increased 1.2 times compared to 2023, surpassing $2 billion. However, exports in 64 districts declined year-on-year, and in 17 of them did not even reach 50 percent of the previous year’s levels. Taking into account the challenging global situation, the president urged regional leaders to make use of new opportunities.
