Andijan to phase out cash payments on buses starting in 2026

From January 1, 2026, buses in Andijan will no longer accept cash payments. Fares will be set at UZS 2,100 for electronic payments, while passengers paying in cash will be required to purchase a UZS 3,000 QR ticket via infokiosks.

The change will take effect on January 1, 2026, in Andijan city, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Passengers using electronic payment methods will be able to pay the fare at UZS 2,100. Travelers are encouraged to use bank cards, mobile applications, as well as ATTO transport and virtual cards.

Those wishing to pay in cash will need to buy a single-use QR ticket costing UZS 3,000 from Paynet, MultiPay, or Oson infokiosks installed directly at bus stops or in nearby areas.

Bus routes in Andijan began transitioning to a gross contract system in July. Under this model, daily revenue targets are abolished, and operator payments are calculated based on distance traveled and service quality indicators.

For comparison, from January 1, 2025, cash payments were discontinued on buses in Tashkent. Fares can be paid using more than 10 cashless methods, including ATTO transport and virtual cards, contactless UzCard and Humo bank cards issued by any bank, international payment cards such as Visa, MasterCard, and UnionPay, as well as Click, Uzum, and Plum payment applications.

In Tashkent, single-use QR tickets for cash payments are sold through Paynet, Oson, and MultiPay infokiosks, as well as Paynet offline outlets. These tickets cost UZS 3,000, while cashless payments are charged at UZS 1,700.

Because QR tickets are validated alongside cashless payment methods and recorded in the ATTO system, authorities have been able to more accurately track the actual number of passengers.

Following the introduction of the new system, the number of passengers carried in early January 2025 increased by 30–40% compared with the same period in 2024.
