Car manufacturing boosts industrial growth in Uzbekistan amid energy sector decline
As of December 1, 2025, Uzbekistan had 59,600 industrial enterprises in operation. The figure stood at 64,000 in the same period of 2024 and 71,100 in December 2023.
The National Statistics Committee reported that despite the decline in the number of enterprises, industrial output has increased. In January–November this year, industrial enterprises produced goods worth UZS 963.3 trillion, up 6.8 percent year-on-year.
Analysis shows that output of several strategic resources continues to decline. Over the past 11 months, Uzbekistan produced 38.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas. By comparison, production totaled 42.8 billion cubic meters in 2023 and 41 billion cubic meters in the first 11 months of 2024.
Gasoline production fell from 1,189 tons to 1,082 tons compared with January–November 2024. Crude oil output also declined, from 657.6 tons to 601.2 tons.
At the same time, growth was recorded in the production of several industrial goods. Over 11 months, electricity generation reached 76,783 billion kWh, up from 73,842 billion kWh a year earlier. Coal output amounted to 7.5 million tons, compared with 7.3 million tons in the same period last year.
Automobile production also increased. From January to November, 419,338 passenger cars were produced, which is 34,237 more than in the same period of 2024.
Although UzAutoMotors continues to account for the largest share of the sector, output declined for several models. Production of the Cobalt totaled 148,094 units, down 1,696 year-on-year. Output of the Damas fell by 6,627 units, while the Onix dropped by 7,309 units. By contrast, production of the Tracker increased from 40,718 to 47,804 units.
The strongest growth in the automotive sector was recorded by BYD. While the company produced 2,198 vehicles in the first 11 months of 2024, output rose to 17,510 units in the same period of 2025 – an almost eightfold increase.
During the reporting period, 24,507 Kia vehicles, 8,627 Chery vehicles, and 8,891 Haval vehicles were produced. All three brands posted growth.
