Health Ministry: Family polyclinic services to remain free under state guarantees
The Ministry of Health has denied reports circulating on social media that medical services at family polyclinics in Uzbekistan will become fee-based from January 1.
Social media posts claimed that citizens must visit polyclinics with passports and birth certificates by December 31 to be registered in the DMED information system, warning that medical services would otherwise be provided on a paid basis. The Ministry of Health said these claims are entirely unfounded.
“Today, all 37.7 million residents of the republic are already connected to the DMED system, and their electronic medical records have been fully created. Therefore, there is no need to re-register citizens in the system,” the statement said.
Under current legislation, primary health care institutions, including multidisciplinary family polyclinics, outpatient clinics, and rural health centers, provide medical and sanitary care free of charge within the scope of services guaranteed by the state.
To access medical services included in the guaranteed package free of charge, patients are required to undergo scheduled medical examinations and consult a family doctor or medical team within the prescribed time frames, except in cases of emergency and urgent care.
In such cases, the family doctor issues an electronic referral to specialist physicians or, if necessary, to hospitals in accordance with treatment and diagnostic standards. Based on this referral, the patient is examined by a specialist and/or admitted to a hospital.
The ministry urged the public to rely on official ministry platforms for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the health care system.
