Energy Ministry confirms oil leak in Boysun field
Reports have emerged on social media that oil is seeping from the “25 Years of Independence” field in Boysun district, Surkhandarya region. The Ministry of Energy has confirmed the presence of oil at the site and issued an official statement.
According to the ministry’s press service, at the end of December 2025, oil-bearing liquid was observed reaching the surface at the “M-25” field, located in Boysun district. The situation has been promptly brought under control by the relevant authorities.
“To prevent the spread of oil into the environment, additional containment ponds have been constructed around the field and along the nearby stream bed. These measures are aimed at preventing the liquid from spreading over a wide area. Collected oil-bearing liquid is being transported to a designated facility on an ongoing basis. There, two specially isolated sludge ponds, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, are available. This infrastructure ensures the safe storage of the liquid and allows for its efficient future use. All operations are being carried out in full compliance with current industrial and environmental safety requirements,” the statement said.
Analysis of samples of the oil-bearing liquid is underway. Based on the results, the potential for processing will be assessed, and geological surveys are continuing. The situation is currently under constant monitoring, and the oil-bearing liquid has been contained. Cleanup of oil that initially flowed into the channel is ongoing. Additional information on the situation will be provided as it becomes available.
