Uzbekistan plans to open three new consulates in the United States

Uzbekistan is set to expand its diplomatic presence in the United States with the opening of three new consulates, Ambassador Furkat Sidikov announced on January 17 during a meeting with ambassadors and business representatives.

The move comes as Uzbekistan introduces a visa-free regime for U.S. citizens starting January 1, 2026, creating new opportunities for tourism and bilateral engagement.

“Over the past 30 years, we have operated our embassy in Washington, D.C., and a consulate general in New York. In line with a presidential decree, we will now establish additional consulates in Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington State,” Sidikov said.

The ambassador emphasized that expanding the diplomatic network will enhance Uzbekistan’s tourism potential and strengthen its unique position as the only country in the region offering direct connections between the United States, Central Asia, and Europe.

“Uzbekistan currently operates five weekly flights to the U.S., serving as a unique bridge. We are also exploring the possibility of launching additional flights to Florida or California, which would further expand our connectivity and potential,” he added.

Sidikov encouraged tour operators to develop travel packages specifically tailored to American tourists. “The U.S. market is very demanding, and standard packages do not suffice. I invite respected tour operators to create products adapted to this audience,” he said.

He also highlighted the growing third generation of Uzbek migrants in the United States, many of whom are losing ties to their language and heritage.

“Special tours for our compatriots could encourage families to bring their children to Uzbekistan, introducing them to their roots and allowing them to experience Samarkand, Bukhara, and other historical sites firsthand,” Sidikov noted.
