Turkey’s MT Makina to invest $10 million in waste sorting projects in Samarkand

According to the Agency for Waste Management, the plans were discussed during talks between Agency Director Sharifbek Khasanov and MT Makina’s management on the sidelines of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Turkey. The sides explored cooperation in developing waste processing and management facilities, as well as localizing the production of related equipment.

Under the agreements, projects with a total value of $10 million will be implemented in the Samarkand region, with the main construction and launch phases scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. The package includes the construction of a household waste sorting station with a capacity of 500 tons per day.

In addition, a plant will be established to produce up to 1,000 units of waste containers and specialized vehicles for municipal waste collection annually. The joint ventures are expected to create around 100 new jobs, with an estimated operational lifespan of 20 years.

The investment comes amid broader government efforts to support the sanitation and waste processing sector. In late 2025, President Mirziyoyev approved tax incentives for enterprises operating in waste collection, transportation, sorting, and recycling. Until early 2031, eligible companies will pay profit tax and social tax at a preferential rate of 1%, provided two conditions are met.

First, at least 90% of a company’s revenue during the reporting period must come from waste-related activities. Second, all employees must receive a monthly salary of no less than two times the minimum wage, currently set at UZS 2.542 million.

Officials say the projects are expected to strengthen Uzbekistan’s waste management infrastructure, expand domestic production of specialized equipment, and contribute to job creation in the region.
