Uzbekistan to send two athletes to 2026 Winter Olympics after injury setback
Uzbekistan will field two athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, scheduled from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
The country originally secured four Olympic quotas, but injuries have reduced its delegation. Medet Nazarov will compete in slalom and giant slalom events in alpine skiing, while Daniil Yeybog will represent Uzbekistan in short track speed skating, racing the 500-meter distance, the National Olympic Committee said.
According to the Olympic schedule, Yeybog’s short track event is set for February 16, and Nazarov will compete in the giant slalom on February 14 and the slalom on February 16.
Two other Uzbek athletes, Dmitry Chigirev and Ekaterina Geynish, had originally earned quotas in pair figure skating. However, Chigirev’s injury prevented him from recovering in time, leaving only Nazarov and Yeybog to compete.
