Statistics Committee reports decline in overseas study trips
A total of 28,954 Uzbek citizens traveled abroad for educational purposes in 2025, according to data released by the National Statistics Committee.
The figure represents a decline of nearly 6,900 people, or 19.3 percent, compared with 2024, indicating a notable reduction in outbound student mobility over the past year.
Despite the decrease, Uzbek students pursued education opportunities across 35 countries in 2025, reflecting continued international engagement in the field of higher and vocational education.
Russia remained the most popular destination, attracting 6,498 Uzbek students. It was followed closely by neighboring Tajikistan, which hosted 6,039 students, and Kyrgyzstan, with 4,648.
South Korea ranked fourth, drawing 3,513 Uzbek citizens for study purposes, while Turkey followed with 2,496 students. China hosted 1,259 Uzbek students during the reporting period.
Among other key destinations, Kazakhstan received 1,097 students, the United Kingdom 886, Germany 391, and the United States 351.
