According to Dunyo, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Czechia recently held an online meeting with Martin Tatek, the Route Development Manager at Václav Havel Airport Prague. The discussions focused on increasing tourism and business exchanges, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.
During the meeting, Martin Tatek highlighted that Uzbekistan has become a point of significant interest for Czech travelers. Tourists are increasingly drawn to the country’s rich historical heritage, well-developed infrastructure, and high standards of service.
Beyond tourism, the destination is also becoming more attractive to Czech enterprises looking for new market opportunities. Currently, the lack of a direct link remains a hurdle, as most passengers are forced to travel via transit hubs like Istanbul. This reliance on connecting flights currently reduces the competitiveness of the route.
The sides emphasized that launching direct, scheduled flights between Prague and Tashkent would provide a major boost to regional ties. Direct connectivity would allow tour operators and independent travelers to:
- Plan trips further in advance.
- Create more competitive tour packages.
- Actively promote Uzbekistan as a primary destination in Central Europe.
While the Czech side views the national carrier, Uzbekistan Airways, as a potential key partner for this project, they remain open to cooperation with other carriers, including private airlines.
A follow-up online meeting is scheduled for early March. This upcoming session will include representatives from Václav Havel Airport Prague, Uzbekistan Airways, and other interested carriers to discuss specific conditions and support measures required to launch the regular service.
