President Mirziyoyev offers condolences to Iran over the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has formally expressed his condolences to the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, following the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The message of sympathy was shared by the Iranian Embassy in Tashkent.

In his letter to President Masoud Pezeshkian, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and members of his family. The President emphasized the Supreme Leader’s extensive role in shaping modern Iran.

"The news of the passing of His Excellency Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Religious Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and his family members has filled our hearts with deep distress," the letter stated. "Throughout his many years of fruitful activity, he performed great services in strengthening Iranian statehood, ensuring social stability, and preserving national values."

Mirziyoyev further noted that the memory of the Supreme Leader would remain in the hearts of the Uzbek people, acknowledging his "immense contribution to the development of comprehensive cooperation, mutually beneficial ties, and long-term partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Iran."

Ali Khamenei was killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. He had served as the Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989. Prior to assuming the highest office in the country, he served as the President of Iran from 1981-1989.
