Underage driver remanded in custody following fatal accident involving traffic inspector in Tashkent
A minor, identified as Doniyor Turgunov, has been placed in custody following a court order in connection with a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a traffic police inspector in the Mirobod district of Tashkent.

On February 25, 2026, the suspect, Doniyor Turgunov, was driving a vehicle when he struck traffic inspector Khosilbek Eshnazarov. The officer was performing his duties in the Mirobod district at the time of the collision. Despite medical intervention, the inspector succumbed to his severe injuries.
Following the incident, the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that Turgunov has been detained as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
According to official reports, Turgunov is suspected of committing crimes under two specific articles of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan:
- Article 267, Part 1 – Carjacking (punishable by 5–10 years of imprisonment)
- Article 104, Part 3, Clause "d" – Intentional infliction of grievous bodily injury resulting in death (punishable by 8–10 years of imprisonment)
On February 28, a court issued a ruling to apply a preventive measure of detention against the suspect while the investigation continues.
The case has drawn significant attention due to its severity and the age of the suspect. The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that personal oversight of the investigation has been established by the Prosecutor General himself to ensure a thorough and transparent process.
