President Mirziyoyev condemns drone attack on Azerbaijan in phone call with Aliyev
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a phone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on March 5, strongly condemning recent drone attacks on Azerbaijani territory. The Uzbek leader also wished a swift recovery to those injured and thanked Azerbaijan for facilitating the safe evacuation of Uzbek citizens from Iran.

At the beginning of the conversation, Mirziyoyev sharply condemned the drone attacks carried out on Azerbaijani territory and expressed hope for the quick recovery of those injured.
The leaders noted with concern that escalating tensions in the Middle East in recent days have resulted in numerous civilian casualties and are causing serious alarm.
Mirziyoyev emphasized that such incidents occurring during the holy month of Ramadan contradict universal human values, international norms, and the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During the call, Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Aliyev for the measures being taken and the conditions created to ensure the safe evacuation of Uzbek citizens from Iran through Azerbaijani territory.
Aliyev, in turn, thanked Mirziyoyev for the friendly conversation and for Uzbekistan’s support during a difficult time.
Drone crash near Nakhchivan airport
On March 5, an Iranian drone crashed in the area of the airport in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. The incident damaged airport infrastructure and injured two people.
The distance from Nakhchivan to the Iranian border is at least 30 kilometers.
Following the incident, President Aliyev convened a meeting of the Security Council and described the event as a “disgusting terrorist attack.”
