Emergency inspector detained in Tashkent during anti-corruption operation
Suspect allegedly demanded $1,500 to formalize fire safety equipment approval.
A junior inspector of the Emergency Situations Department in Tashkent has been detained during a special operation while allegedly receiving $1,500 from the head of a local company.
According to the State Security Service, the operation was carried out by officers of the Tashkent city department of the agency in cooperation with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes as part of anti-corruption efforts.
The suspect, a junior inspector from the Emergency Situations Department of Yangihayot district, was caught while receiving $1,500 from the director of a limited liability company.
Investigators say the official demanded the money in exchange for preparing documentation confirming the acceptance of fire safety equipment installed at the company’s facility. The inspector allegedly intended to arrange the documentation through his colleagues.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 168, Part 3 “v” of the Criminal Code (fraud) and Article 28 and Article 211, Part 1 (bribery).
The suspect has been placed in custody as a preventive measure. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
