Beef prices in Uzbekistan see sharp increase within a month

Uzbekistan is experiencing a notable surge in beef prices, with the maximum cost of meat rising by 8% compared to the previous month. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Economics and Finance, supply chain disruptions in neighboring countries are contributing to the upward trend.

As of March 24, 2026, wholesale prices for beef in the country ranged between UZS 75,000 and UZS 108,000. This reflects a steady increase over a short period; just one week ago, prices were recorded between UZS 70,000 and UZS 105,000. In that seven-day window alone, the minimum price rose by 7.1%, while the maximum price increased by 2.9%.

Monthly price fluctuations

The current rates show a significant departure from figures published in February. One month ago, beef was priced between 70,000 UZS and 100,000 UZS. The jump to 108,000 UZS represents an 8% increase in the maximum price ceiling. Social media users and independent bloggers have also corroborated these findings, reporting visible hikes in retail prices across various local markets and butcher shops.

Regional factors impacting supply

Experts and officials point to several external factors in Russia and Kazakhstan that are placing pressure on the domestic market:

  • Livestock culling in Russia: Farmers in several Russian regions, particularly those with high animal density, have been forced to seize and destroy livestock. This measure was taken to curb the spread of diseases such as pasteurellosis and rabies.
  • Transit restrictions in Kazakhstan: The Republic of Kazakhstan has implemented temporary restrictions on the import and transit of live cattle and animal products from Russia. These measures also include a ban on animal feed that has not undergone thermal treatment.

These regional constraints have tightened the supply of livestock and meat products throughout Central Asia, leading to the current price volatility in Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Economics and Finance continues to monitor the situation as the market adjusts to these logistical and sanitary challenges.
