A joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic ties was signed on March 27 in New York, according to the Dunyo Information Agency. The document was endorsed by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ulugbek Lapasov, and Lesotho’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Matete Nena.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations and its specialized agencies. The discussions also highlighted mutual interest in developing constructive engagement on global and regional issues.
The Kingdom of Lesotho, located in Southern Africa, is a unique enclave state entirely surrounded by the territory of South Africa. It is also the only country in the world whose entire territory lies at an elevation above 1,400 meters above sea level.
Lesotho has become the 166th country with which Uzbekistan has established official diplomatic relations.
