Under the leadership of head coach Fabio Cannavaro, Uzbekistan’s progress follows a successful run during the March FIFA international window. The team secured a convincing 3:1 victory over Gabon and held Venezuela to a draw. This upward trajectory has solidified Uzbekistan’s status as one of Asia's elite teams, as they now sit among the top five nations in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) alongside Japan (1660.43 points), Iran (1615.30), South Korea (1588.66), and Australia (1580.67).
The rankings update also reflected changes for Uzbekistan’s opponents in Group K of the 2026 World Cup. Portugal moved up to 5th place with 1763.83 points, while Colombia is currently ranked 13th with 1693.09 points. DR Congo, which recently secured its spot in the tournament, also saw a rise in the standings, moving to 46th place with 1478.35 points.
At the very top of the global ladder, a major shift occurred as France reclaimed the number one spot. The team led by Didier Deschamps surpassed both Argentina and Spain to take the lead with 1877.32 points. Spain, the reigning European champions, dropped from the summit to second place with 1876.40 points, while world champions Argentina round out the top three with 1874.81 points.
