Major General Bekmurod Abdullaev previously held various positions within the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Guard. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs in April 2021 and served until his dismissal in November 2025.
By January 2026, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened against Abdullaev and Rustam Tursunov, the former head of the Department for the Execution of Punishments, who was dismissed at the same time. During a video conference meeting chaired by the President at the end of January, it was confirmed that both officials were being held in connection with the embezzlement of approximately UZS 186 billion in state procurement funds within the ministry’s system.
While Abdullaev has been released following the repayment of the alleged damages, Rustam Tursunov remains in custody as the investigation continues.
