The modernization project was a key topic of discussion during a high-level meeting on April 15 between the Governor of Fergana region, Khayrullo Bozorov, and Mehmet Alp Delimollaoglu, head of the Turkish firm Terminal Yapı ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi.

The talks centered on expanding investment cooperation and implementing modern infrastructure projects across the region. Beyond the aviation sector, the parties explored initiatives in healthcare and education, focusing on the reconstruction and technical upgrading of existing facilities with the support of international financial institutions.

The modernization of the airport has already seen significant progress. Uzbekistan Airports confirmed that the first major overhaul of the airport's apron in 35 years commenced in March and has recently been completed. This maintenance was a necessary precursor to the larger expansion plans currently being drafted.

The upcoming phase of the project will focus specifically on the design and construction of the new terminal building. While specific details regarding the capacity and architectural features are yet to be finalized, the move is expected to significantly enhance the airport’s ability to handle increasing passenger traffic and meet international service standards. Uzbekistan Airports has indicated that further information regarding the project timeline and technical specifications will be released as the planning stage concludes.

This initiative aligns with ongoing reforms in the Fergana region aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth through strategic partnerships with international companies. Both the regional administration and Turkish investors emphasized the importance of these infrastructure developments in supporting the long-term perspective tasks for the region.
