Car insurance rises 281.8%, methane up 30% in a year – Central Bank
Prices for goods and services in Uzbekistan increased unevenly over the year to March 2026. Car insurance surged by 281.8%, and methane prices rose by 30.3%, according to the Central Bank.
Annual inflation stood at 7.1% in March, the regulator said.
Approximately 72% of goods and services in the consumer basket saw price increases of less than 5%, while 9% rose by more than 10%.
Among food items, lemon prices jumped by 91.4%, the sharpest increase over the year. Prices for mandarins rose by 22.9% and apples by 19.9%, while lamb increased by 18.2% and chicken eggs by 17%.
At the same time, pumpkin prices fell by 51.9%, the steepest decline. Eggplant prices dropped by 30.4% and garlic by 23.8%, while watermelon and cucumbers became cheaper by 22.2% and 19.1%, respectively.
Of the 167 food items in the consumer price index basket, 89% had annual price increases of less than 10%.
In the non-food segment, methane recorded the largest increase at 30.3%. Wedding rings rose by 29.7%, newspapers by 17.5%, and cement by 15.8%, while propane prices increased by 9.6%.
Large household appliance prices fell by 1.7% over the year, while small appliances declined by 1.2%.
Among services, car insurance saw the largest increase at 281.8%. Trolleybus fares doubled, while gas prices rose by 39.2%, driving course fees by 35.8%, and cold water prices by 35.1%.
Domestic air transport became 10.9% cheaper. Money transfer fees fell by 6.7%, international air travel declined by 5.5%, tuition fees at private universities decreased by 0.5%, and microfinance services by 0.02%.
