President Mirziyoyev visits Burkhoniddin Marginoni tourism and cultural complex
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has conducted an inspection of the newly established Burkhoniddin Marginoni scientific, educational, and tourism complex in Margilan. This project, described as a "city within a city," represents a significant step in the regional strategy to harness the full tourism potential of the Fergana Valley, where foreign visitor numbers have already seen a multifold increase in recent years.

The complex was established following a presidential decree issued on April 1, 2025, and covers an expansive 35 hectares. Designed to harmonize national architectural traditions with modern tourism requirements, the site features a comprehensive range of facilities, including hotels, a caravanserai, shopping and service centers, a dedicated artisans’ center, and a national bazaar.

One of the central missions of the complex is the preservation and promotion of the rich scientific heritage of the great scholar Burkhoniddin Marginoni. However, the site also positions itself as a major cultural destination. It houses the unique "House of Otabek and Kumush" museum, which brings scenes from the iconic novel Days Gone By (O'tkan kunlar) to life. The cultural landscape is further enriched by a Maqom theater, an avenue dedicated to poets and artists, and a modern library.

The master plan for the UZS 1.7 trillion project was developed by the Turkish firm Studio Vertebra. Construction is taking place in two stages, with future additions planned to include a business center, a mosque with a capacity for 1,500 worshippers, and 400 specialized retail and service points. Once fully operational, the complex is expected to attract between 200,000 and 250,000 foreign tourists annually, creating 2,000 new jobs and generating $30 million in service exports.

During his tour, the president reviewed the craftsmanship exhibitions and spoke warmly with members of the public and local activists. The success of the Burkhoniddin Marginoni project is now intended to serve as a blueprint for similar developments across Uzbekistan. Authorities plan to implement this model in other historic locations, including Eternal Bukhara in Bukhara, the Imam Moturidi shrine in Samarkand, the Urda in Kokand, the Akhsikent monument in Namangan, and the Old City district of Tashkent.
