Tashkent police inspector detained over $10,000 bribery allegation
A senior prevention inspector in Tashkent has been detained on suspicion of taking a $10,000 bribe in exchange for opening a criminal case.
The officer, who served in the Uchtepa district police department, was apprehended during a special operation while receiving the illicit payment, the State Security Service reported.
According to authorities, the inspector allegedly solicited the money from a citizen in return for initiating criminal proceedings against another individual and ensuring their subsequent prosecution. The underlying case is reportedly linked to a large–scale fraud allegation involving a suspect born in 1990, who is accused of obtaining $450,000 by falsifying company documents and offering fraudulent IT services.
Preliminary findings indicate that in February 2025, law enforcement agencies had previously declined to pursue a criminal case involving the same group. Criminal proceedings have now been launched against the prevention inspector, and a comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the case.
