Tajikistan and Uzbekistan move to improve mobile network quality in border regions

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are taking joint steps to enhance mobile communication quality in their shared border regions by addressing network interference issues. Technical experts from both sides recently conducted joint radio frequency measurements to optimize network performance.

According to a report by the Avesto news agency, citing the Communication Service under the Government of Tajikistan, the initiative followed a proposal from the Tajik side. Representatives from the Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility of Uzbekistan traveled to Tajikistan to collaborate with their counterparts at the local Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Radio Monitoring. Together, the teams carried out precise measurements of the radio frequency spectrum within the 2300 MHz band.

This technical intervention is essential to prevent the mobile networks of both countries from overlapping along the frontier. In communities situated close to the state border, signals from neighboring mobile operators frequently penetrate the adjacent territory, causing considerable interference and degrading general call and data quality for local subscribers.

During the monitoring process, the specialists successfully identified the specific sources of these overlapping signals, assessed their strength, and agreed on new technical parameters for the respective mobile networks. The two sides then formulated joint solutions designed to minimize future cross–border interference.

The optimization efforts will primarily benefit users in the Tursunzoda, Shahrinav, and Hisor districts of Tajikistan, where network stability is set to improve.

Officials from the Tajik Communication Service emphasized that the continuous synchronization of mobile network parameters between the two countries remains crucial for maintaining stable connectivity in border areas. The agency also noted that this collaborative fieldwork benefits not only commercial mobile operators but also serves to strengthen broader bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in developing telecommunications and shared digital infrastructure.
