Advance payments lock in current energy prices ahead of June rate increase
Uzbekistan is raising its gas and electricity tariffs from 1 June 2026, but households that pay in advance before the new rates take effect will continue to benefit from current prices for up to two months, while businesses will retain the old rates for one month.
This is set out in a government resolution on the rules for using electricity and natural gas. Once a tariff change comes into force, residential consumers who have prepaid are exempt from additional charges for a period of no more than two months, while other consumers, including businesses, are exempt for no more than one month.
In practical terms, anyone who makes a prepayment before 1 June will pay the old rates through to 1 August. However, this exemption applies only within the established social consumption thresholds: 100 cubic meters of gas and 200 kWh of electricity per month. Any consumption beyond those limits will be billed at the new, higher rates.
To illustrate how this works in practice: if a household – say, the Kholmatov family – consumes 280 kWh of electricity in June having made an advance payment, they would pay the old rate of UZS 600 per kWh for the first 200 kWh, amounting to UZS 120,000. The remaining 80 kWh, which falls within the 201–500 kWh band, would be charged at the new rate of UZS 900, adding UZS 72,000 to the bill.
New tariffs from 1 June
For residents of multi-apartment buildings and dormitories equipped with centralized electric cookers, the new electricity tariffs will be as follows: up to 200 kWh per month – UZS 325; 201–500 kWh – UZS 450; 501–1,000 kWh – UZS 550 per kWh.
For all other residential consumers, the rates will be higher: up to 200 kWh per month – UZS 650; 201–500 kWh – UZS 900; 501–1,000 kWh – UZS 1,100 per kWh. Higher consumption will continue to attract elevated coefficients.
For natural gas, the standard price for all consumers – with certain exceptions – will be set at UZS 2,000 per cubic meter. Compressed natural gas at vehicle filling stations will be priced at UZS 2,750 per cubic meter.
Residential gas tariffs will remain tiered: during the heating season, consumption of up to 500 cubic meters per month, and up to 100 cubic meters per month in other seasons, will be charged at UZS 1,100 per cubic meter.
