Uzbekistan's daily electricity consumption hits new summer peak
Uzbekistan has recorded a new summer electricity consumption record as soaring temperatures pushed power demand above last year's peak, the Ministry of Energy said.
According to the ministry, the country's power plants generated 281.5 million kWh of electricity on July 13, while daily consumption reached 278.6 million kWh.
The figure surpassed the previous summer record by 6 million kWh, or 2.2%.
The earlier record was set on July 18, 2025, when air temperatures reached +40°C in the country's central regions and +42°C to +44°C in desert areas. Similar weather conditions were observed on July 13.
The Ministry of Energy said hot weather is expected to persist over the coming days, increasing the likelihood of further records in both electricity consumption and peak system load.
To ensure a stable power supply, energy companies have switched to an enhanced operating regime. Emergency repair teams are on standby around the clock to respond promptly to any faults in the electricity network.
At the same time, the ministry warned that temporary power outages could occur in some regions because of technical failures in the grid.
Consumers were urged to use electricity efficiently by switching off appliances that are not in use, particularly during peak demand hours, to reduce pressure on the power system.
Last week, the ministry forecast that daily electricity consumption could reach 280 million kWh during the current heatwave, with peak system load expected to range between 13–13.3 GW, close to record levels. It also instructed energy companies to strengthen monitoring of power facilities and electricity networks throughout the period of extreme heat.
