Methane prices rise by 10 percent at fueling stations across Uzbekistan

Retail prices for methane at compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across Uzbekistan have risen to UZS 5,800 per cubic meter. Images and receipts shared by motorists on social media confirmed the price adjustment, which followed the implementation of a new state–regulated wholesale energy tariff that took effect on June 1, 2026.

Under the updated structure, the government has set the wholesale procurement price of natural gas supplied to filling stations at UZS 2,750 per cubic meter. This represents a 10% increase from the previous wholesale rate of UZS 2,500 per cubic meter, which had been in place since May 1, 2025. Prior to this latest adjustment, motorists typically paid between UZS 5,200 and UZS 5,300 per cubic meter at the pump.

A similar market response occurred in May 2025, when the government raised the wholesale price for fueling stations from UZS 1,800 to UZS 2,500 per cubic meter. That policy shift caused retail prices at the stations to climb from under UZS 4,250 to UZS 5,300 per cubic meter.

The wholesale adjustments follow broader changes to domestic energy pricing. On May 1, 2026, the government introduced updated natural gas and electricity utility rates across the country while preserving a tiered social consumption system to protect lower–income households.

Under the household tier system, the base electricity rate for residential consumers using up to 200 kWh per month increased from UZS 600 to UZS 650 per kWh. For monthly consumption between 201 kWh and 500 kWh, the price rose from UZS 800 to UZS 900 per kWh.

Residential natural gas tariffs also experienced changes. The base price for a single cubic meter of natural gas for general consumers rose from UZS 1,800 to UZS 2,000. Differentiated consumption brackets remain active for residential users, capping the base price at UZS 1,100 per cubic meter for usage up to 500 cubic meters per month during the winter heating season, and up to 100 cubic meters per month during the rest of the year.
