Uzbekistan, Hong Kong to establish joint business council
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) have agreed to establish a joint business council to strengthen commercial relations and investment flows between the two markets.
The agreement was finalized during a high-level meeting between Davron Vakhabov, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, and Jeffrey Lam, a board member of the HKGCC. The talks took place within the framework of an official visit to Uzbekistan by a high-ranking delegation from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, led by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu.
During their discussions, corporate leaders from both sides evaluated prospects for broadening trade and economic cooperation. The dialogue built upon recent diplomatic and commercial momentum, including an official visit to Hong Kong by Farhod Arziev, the Uzbek Ambassador to China, in March, followed by a working visit by Uzbek chamber representatives in May.

The constructive discussions culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which formally lays the groundwork for the Uzbekistan–Hong Kong Business Council. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu.
The newly formed council is designed to serve as a structured platform for maintaining a regular dialogue and forging direct links between the business communities of both regions. It will focus on advancing joint investment projects and identifying new areas of economic partnership.
Moving forward, the chambers plan to initiate comprehensive knowledge-sharing programs, organize bilateral business forums, coordinate business-to-business (B2B) meetings, and facilitate targeted trade missions. Representatives from the HKGCC highlighted that the memorandum will function as a strategic roadmap, enabling Hong Kong enterprises to successfully enter and diversify within the growing Uzbek market.
