Under Article 27 of the law, certificate holders may place a label alongside a geographical indication on goods or their packaging to show that the indication is registered in Uzbekistan.
The government approved two label types.
The geographical indication label is a green circle featuring a sun, a loaf of bread, and a map of Uzbekistan. It also includes a red location marker bearing the letters “GK” and an official inscription in Uzbek.
The appellation-of-origin label has the same design in sky blue. Its location marker bears the abbreviation “AO.” The label also carries the Uzbek inscription “MUHOFAZALANGAN TOVAR KELIB CHIQQAN JOY NOMI” and the English wording “PROTECTED APPELLATION OF ORIGIN.”
Both labels feature an eight-pointed star on either side of the circle, a thin border, and information identifying the country of origin.
According to the resolution, the labels may be used only for geographical indications and appellations of origin linked to Uzbekistan’s territory.
The Ministry of Justice must launch a real-time publication system on the relevant portal within one month and oversee label use. Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov will supervise the resolution’s implementation.
