Uzbekistan's population tops 39 million, preliminary census shows
The population of Uzbekistan reached 39,047,321 people as of January 15, according to preliminary data from the recent population and housing census announced by Behzod Hamrayev, the Chairman of the National Statistics Committee.
The initial census findings reveal that the actual population is higher by 810,600 people, or about 2.1 percent, than previous calculations from standard statistical estimates had suggested. The update demonstrates that the country's demographic growth has significantly outpaced standard tracking models.
A breakdown of the newly released figures indicates a relatively balanced gender ratio across the country, with men accounting for 19.8 million people, or 50.6 percent of the total population, and women making up 19.3 million people, representing 49.4 percent.
The data also details the age distribution within the country. The number of citizens under the working age stands at 12.5 million, while the working–age population forms the largest segment at 21.7 million people.
Demographic trends reflect rapid growth over the last few decades. Compared to the results of the historical 1989 census, the overall population of Uzbekistan has officially doubled.
The statistics chief noted that the extensive data collection effort successfully covered 97.3 percent of the country's population. A small segment of the population, amounting to 2.7 percent of residents, did not participate in the census due to various reasons.
