Authorities investigate employment scams targeting job seekers bound for South Korea
Law enforcement authorities have uncovered several fraud schemes involving false promises of employment and study opportunities abroad, with suspects accused of collecting tens of thousands of U.S. dollars from victims seeking to travel to South Korea and Canada.
According to the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, separate criminal cases have been opened in Tashkent region, the city of Kuvasay and Pakhtaabad district following preliminary investigations.
In Tashkent region, investigators found that a citizen identified as M.A. allegedly obtained $12,000 from two individuals by falsely promising to arrange employment in South Korea.
In a separate case in Kuvasay, a suspect identified as D.R. allegedly defrauded a citizen of $11,000 after promising admission to a university in South Korea and assistance in obtaining a visa. Authorities said $200 of the amount has been returned to the victim as part of the legal proceedings.
Another investigation in Pakhtaabad district found that a citizen identified as H.M. allegedly collected $4,945 from two individuals under the pretext of preparing documents for employment-related travel to Canada and South Korea.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code in all three cases, and investigative actions are ongoing.
