The measures were approved by Cabinet Resolution No. 437 of August 7, 2026. Under the resolution, advisers responsible for spirituality and state language issues will play a greater role in monitoring compliance with language legislation.
Such positions have already been established in the central offices of national government bodies and economic associations, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations and the Tashkent city administration, as well as district and city administrations.
The Cabinet’s Department for the Development of the State Language will now coordinate the advisers’ work and provide methodological guidance. Advisers will be appointed and dismissed by the heads of the respective organizations in coordination with the department.
Advisers to monitor documents, signs and advertising
One of the advisers’ main responsibilities will be to ensure compliance with legislation concerning the state language, geographical names and the spiritual and educational sphere.
They will also oversee measures to ensure that draft normative legal acts undergo linguistic examination.
The advisers will monitor whether signs, notices, advertisements and other visual information displayed by government institutions comply with legal requirements, including requirements governing the use of the state language.
The resolution also establishes the personal responsibility of heads of government agencies, organizations, economic associations and other institutions for ensuring compliance with legislation on the state language.
Regular monitoring to be introduced
Government agencies and organizations will also undergo rotating, competitive monitoring to assess compliance with legal requirements aimed at improving the effectiveness of official business conducted in the state language.
The measures are intended to strengthen oversight of how Uzbek is used in government institutions and ensure more consistent compliance with established language standards.
