Rahmon also instructed officials to ensure that the new schools are provided with Uzbek-language textbooks and other educational materials, the state-run Khovar news agency reported.
Speaking at the opening of School No. 21 in Tursunzoda, Rahmon praised the quality of the construction work and called on officials and teachers to take greater responsibility for improving the quality of education and student development.
He also urged educators to give greater attention to modern subjects and make effective use of new technologies. The president stressed the importance of strengthening students’ knowledge of the exact and natural sciences, as well as foreign languages.
60 facilities commissioned in Tursunzoda
A total of 60 facilities were commissioned in Tursunzoda during Rahmon’s visit, including 20 general education schools with a combined capacity of 18,200 students across two shifts.
The newly opened facilities also include five private kindergartens capable of accommodating 950 children, four industrial enterprises, a tourism facility, five service facilities and six sports grounds.
In addition, three refrigerated storage facilities with a combined capacity of 5,300 tonnes, nine multi-storey residential buildings, administrative and cultural facilities, a state flag square and a recreation park have been completed and commissioned.
The projects have created 1,220 permanent jobs.
According to local authorities, Tursunzoda currently has 132 general education institutions serving more than 78,863 students.
More schools planned
As part of preparations for the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, another 24 educational institutions are planned for construction and commissioning in Tursunzoda.
So far, 19 educational buildings with a combined capacity of 8,185 students have been completed and put into operation.
