The new terminal will cover 19,650 square meters – about 8.2 times the size of the existing terminal, which dates back to 1979. Its capacity will increase fivefold, from 200 to 1,000 passengers per hour, allowing the airport to handle around 1 million passengers annually once the project is completed, Uzbekistan Airports said following a press tour for journalists.

As of August 17, construction of the terminal building was about 40% complete. The drainage system, foundation preparation and foundation concreting have been fully completed. Metal structures covering 13,104 square meters have also been installed in full, while floor concreting on the first level and installation of the reinforcement frame are 90% complete.

Uzbekistan Airports is implementing the project independently, without a private investor under a public-private partnership arrangement. PRIME TOWER GROUP is the general designer, while MARIN BUSINESS TRADE is the contractor.

The construction contract was signed on February 5, 2026, following a tender.

The terminal project follows a major reconstruction of the airport’s airfield complex, completed in March 2025. The runway, taxiways and aircraft parking areas were expanded, while new airfield lighting equipment was installed.

The next stage of modernization includes 10 aircraft stands for large aircraft and two additional taxiways, one of them a high-speed taxiway.

The upgraded infrastructure has already enabled the airport to receive larger aircraft. On July 3, Andijan received its first scheduled Airbus A330 flight operated by Flyadeal from Medina, carrying 354 passengers. On August 4, the airport handled its first-ever cargo flight involving a Boeing 747-400 operated by Challenge Air Cargo.

Passenger traffic at Andijan airport increased by 2,249% year on year in the first half of 2026. Uzbekistan Airports attributed the sharp increase primarily to the low base effect.
