The project is being jointly implemented by Chinese companies Xiang Yang Tenglong Automobile and GIG Investments and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 700 electric buses once fully operational.
A groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Fergana region governor Khayrullo Bozorov, as well as entrepreneurs, investors, local community representatives and veterans.
Speaking at the event, Bozorov congratulated those present on Uzbekistan’s upcoming 35th anniversary of independence and said the country’s ongoing reforms were delivering tangible results across the economy.
The project forms part of efforts to expand the use of alternative energy and develop modern, environmentally friendly transport. The plant will initially manufacture electric buses, with plans to begin producing electric trucks at a later stage.
The facility is being built on a 10-hectare site in the special industrial zone of the Ijodkor neighborhood in Yazyavan district.
With total investment estimated at $170 million, the plant is scheduled to begin operations in December 2027. The vehicles produced there are expected to supply both the domestic market and foreign markets.
Authorities say the project will strengthen the industrial capacity of Fergana region and create new jobs.
The ceremony concluded with the laying of a foundation stone, formally marking the start of construction.
