According to the National Statistics Committee, as of 1 July, 4,982,516 motor vehicles registered in Uzbekistan were owned by individuals.
Passenger cars accounted for the overwhelming majority, at 4.62 million vehicles. The remainder included 343,400 trucks, 7,500 minibuses, 7,100 special-purpose vehicles and 5,800 buses.
Tashkent had the largest number of privately owned motor vehicles, with 637,700 registered units. Fergana region followed with 573,472 vehicles, while Samarkand region ranked third with 563,072.
Tashkent region had 476,148 privately owned vehicles, followed by Kashkadarya region with 457,457 and Andijan region with 381,421.
The figures for the remaining regions were 336,810 in Namangan region, 325,980 in Surkhandarya region, 309,391 in Bukhara region, 287,918 in Khorezm region and 220,882 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Navoi region had 156,745 privately owned vehicles, followed by Jizzakh region with 145,392 and Syrdarya region with 110,122.
Uzbekistan’s permanent population stood at 38.52 million as of 1 July. Based on these figures, there were about 129 privately owned motor vehicles for every 1,000 residents – or roughly one vehicle for every 7.7 people.
