The service will be launched by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’s subsidiary Passenger Transportation JSC, marking the first time the women-only carriage service has been introduced on an international route in Kazakhstan’s railway system.
The company said the decision was driven by strong demand on the Almaty–Tashkent route and growing passenger traffic between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
According to Passenger Transportation JSC head Anuar Akhmetzhanov, women-only carriages have also proved popular on domestic routes, with more than 946,000 passengers using the service since its introduction.
Train No. 1/2 operates daily between Almaty and Tashkent. It departs Almaty at 7:05 p.m. and arrives in Tashkent at 12:53 p.m. the following day. On the return journey, the train leaves Tashkent at 2:41 p.m. and reaches Almaty at 8:51 a.m. the next day.
Tickets for the women-only carriage will be sold exclusively to female passengers. The carriage will also be staffed only by female train attendants.
Boys under the age of seven will be allowed to travel in the carriage if accompanied by an adult female passenger.
Passengers buying tickets at railway ticket offices must specifically request a seat in the women-only carriage. Those purchasing tickets online should look for the “ЖН” designation when selecting the carriage and seat.
Ticket sales open 45 days before departure, allowing passengers to book their journeys in advance. Tickets can also be purchased through the official website of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.
