According to Dunyo news agency, the document was signed on behalf of the two governments by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ulugbek Lapasov and Odo Tevi, head of Vanuatu’s mission to the UN.
The officials stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
The establishment of diplomatic relations marks another step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand its diplomatic ties with Pacific island states.
Uzbekistan also established diplomatic relations with Guinea-Bissau earlier this year. A joint communiqué to that effect was signed in New York on April 22.
