There are currently 32 foreign higher education institutions operating in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said the country’s focus in attracting foreign universities will now shift towards branches of institutions ranked among the world’s top 300.
Private universities that bring in franchises of prestigious foreign institutions will be eligible for compensation of up to 50% of the costs of laboratories and equipment, as well as payments for using the foreign university’s brand.
The state will also cover up to 30% of campus construction costs and allocate places for students to study on state grants. The measures are intended to improve the return on investments made to attract foreign universities to Uzbekistan.
Priority will be given to academic fields considered strategically important to the economy, including engineering, agriculture and water management, energy, artificial intelligence and medicine.
