President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks on October 8 in Avaza, Turkmenistan.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, with the two sides focusing on further strengthening their strategic partnership.

The leaders noted positive momentum in trade and economic ties. Bilateral trade has been growing steadily since the beginning of the year, supported in part by the Shavat–Dashoguz cross-border trade zone.

The sides stressed the importance of adopting a plan of measures to substantially increase mutual trade. They also agreed to develop an industrial cooperation program covering energy, transport, agriculture and water management, including cooperation between regions.

Following the talks, Mirziyoyev and Berdimuhamedov signed an agreement establishing the Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership.

According to President Mirziyoyev’s press service, the agreement will provide an institutional framework for further political dialogue and expanded practical cooperation in priority areas.
