“Representatives of traditional medicine can now work on a legal basis” – Ministry of Health

According to the Law “On amendments and addenda to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan” adopted on May 22 of this year, changes were introduced to Article 41 of the Law “On protection of citizens' health”.

It was determined that “persons without medical education have also the right to engage in medical activities using traditional medicine methods on the basis of the conclusion of the Special Commission on licensing medical activities using traditional medicine methods under the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan”. 

According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, a draft regulation is being prepared on organization of the Special Commission for licensing medical activities of persons using traditional medicine methods.

The Commission, along with doctors, includes psychologists, technical specialists, religious figures and representatives of traditional medicine.

“Those who wish to practice traditional medicine will be tested by representatives of this Commission on awareness of the basics of modern medicine, applying their knowledge in practice,” head of the licensing and accreditation department of the Ministry of Health Farkhod Rakhimkulov said. 

He added that according to the presidential decree, those who provide medical services using traditional medicine methods are considered to be responsible in accordance with the law on an equal basis with medical workers.
