Timur Kapadze in talks to take over Indonesia national team
Former Uzbekistan national team coach Timur Kapadze is being considered as one of the main candidates to lead the Indonesian national football team, Goal Media reported.
According to the outlet, the Football Association of Indonesia is reviewing three candidates: Kapadze, German coach Thomas Doll – who previously managed the Indonesian club Persija Jakarta – and former Iraq national team coach, Spaniard Jesús Casas.
A final decision on the new appointment is expected in the coming days. The Indonesian national team has been without a head coach since Patrick Kluivert terminated his contract by mutual agreement. The Dutch specialist took charge on January 8 this year but failed to achieve the expected results.
Indonesia’s recent 0–1 loss to Iraq in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round ended its hopes of advancing to the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
If appointed, Timur Kapadze would become one of the first Uzbek coaches to lead a national football team in Southeast Asia.
