Uzbekistan is ranked 5th in the list of safest countries for independent adventurers (map)

The online travel service Wegoplace.me published the “Solo Travel Safety Report 2019”, which presents an overview of the safest, riskiest, most peaceful and hostile countries. It also provides helpful tips for solo travel from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

According to the publisher’s ranking, Uzbekistan is recognized as the fifth safest country for independent adventurers.

The report was based on a survey of residents of 142 countries according to several criteria, including questions about how safe they feel walking alone at night, their confidence with local police, whether they had been assaulted or mugged and more.

Singapore topped the ranking of safest tourist destinations with safety index of 97. It is closely followed by Norway, Iceland and Finland. Uzbekistan is ranked fifth (safety index - 91), showing a better result than such countries as Hong Kong, Switzerland, Canada, Indonesia and Denmark.

“This Central Asian nation is known for mosques, mausoleums and other great sites linked to the Silk Road, an ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean. Samarkand is a major city on this route which offers a landmark of Islamic architecture, the Registan (dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries),” the report noted.

“Uzbekistan is a safe place to visit. Unwanted attention for female travelers isn’t a problem and a firm “no” holds more clout here than in some other Central Asian Countries,” Solo Travel Safety Report 2019 says.

According to the compilers of the ranking, reports of crimes against tourists are reassuringly low in Uzbekistan.
