President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated students and educators on Knowledge Day, which he said coincides with the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, in a statement released on Tuesday (September 1).
The president extended good wishes to about 800,000 children starting school, their parents, and the teaching community, and expressed hope that the new academic year would bring a "new educational upsurge" across schools, lyceums, technical colleges, and universities.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that large-scale reforms in education and upbringing over recent years had given schools in "New Uzbekistan" a new appearance and improved the quality of education.
The president said education and upbringing would remain a top priority, with school graduates given the opportunity to gain at least one modern profession alongside a strong academic foundation. To that end, "vocational towns" would be set up in regions, drawing on modern experience and leading specialists.
In his address to youth, Mirziyoyev said knowledge was “the most important wealth in a person's life.”
The president urged young people to value every moment of their youth, to master new knowledge, ideas, innovations, professions, and crafts.
