Rönesans Holding shows interest in Uzbekistan’s high-speed rail project

According to the Ministry of Transport, Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister, Ilkhom Makhkamov, met with Rönesans Chairman Kamil Yanıkömeroğlu on December 3 to discuss major infrastructure projects under public-private partnerships. During the meeting, Yanıkömeroğlu emphasized the company's enthusiasm for participating in the high-speed rail project.

Earlier in May, representatives of Rönesans and the Istanbul branch of Japan’s Sojitz Corporation held discussions with Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev about potential collaboration in constructing toll roads, further signaling the group's interest in Uzbekistan's infrastructure development.

Plans for high-speed rail projects were initially highlighted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the September meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Samarkand. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity between Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, and Bukhara, supporting the country’s growing passenger and freight transport demands.

In November, the first deputy head of Uzbekistan Railways confirmed the necessity of dedicated high-speed rail lines to address the limitations of the current infrastructure, which struggles to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.

The Tashkent-Samarkand high-speed railway project represents a significant step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to modernize its transportation network, with Rönesans Holding poised to play a key role in its implementation.
