AirAsia launches flights between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent

Flights between the two cities will be operated three times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

AirAsia has launched its first flight between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent, Uzbekistan Airports reported.

The inaugural aircraft of the Malaysian carrier landed in the Uzbek capital on 15 October at 17:40 local time. The Airbus A330, carrying 218 passengers, was welcomed with the traditional water salute.

Regular flights on the Kuala Lumpur – Tashkent – Kuala Lumpur route will be operated three times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The flight schedule is as follows:

Until 24 October:

Departure from Kuala Lumpur – 13:25, arrival in Tashkent – 18:15

Departure from Tashkent – 19:30, arrival in Kuala Lumpur – 6:10 the next day 

From 27 October:

Departure from Kuala Lumpur – 13:20, arrival in Tashkent – 17:50

Departure from Tashkent – 19:55, arrival in Kuala Lumpur – 6:35 the next day

The one-way ticket price starts from $204 (UZS 2,495,668 at the Central Bank rate as of 16 October).

AirAsia has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Uzbekistan’s Committee for Tourism. The parties plan to promote bilateral tourism initiatives, conduct joint marketing activities, and implement cultural exchange programmes.

The Malaysian airline received permission from Uzaviation for regular flights to Uzbekistan in early February. Around the same time, the regulator also approved T’way Air, a South Korean carrier, to begin flights between Tashkent and Seoul.

Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the launch of an “Umrah Plus” tourism package for Malaysian and Indonesian pilgrims. The initiative envisions organizing visits to religious and historic sites in Samarkand and Bukhara as part of their pilgrimage journey to Mecca.
